RésuméCurrent conventional silicon photovoltaics is reaching a plateau both in efficiency and in cost per m2.  Novel concepts of solar cells are being developed to achieve higher efficiencies while keeping and even reducing the production costs, being hetero-structured tandem solar cells and hybrid perovskite structure cells some of the most   promising candidates. In this seminar we present an overview of how different luminescence and spectroscopic techniques can contribute to discern the best growth strategies in hetero-structured solar cells to achieve high performance solar cells. Among these techniques, photoluminescence, cathodoluminescence, tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy and X-ray optical excited luminescence will be discussed. In particular, we shall focus on one of these concepts: the use of hetero-structured nanowires to build double and triple tandem junctions, and show some preliminary results we are currently obtaining in Si p-n junction nanowires and InP/InGaP nanowires.  Finally, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities for these techniques to contribute towards high performance commercial solar cells.
