Titre: What is it like to work at the CNRS International Research Laboratory ?

Résumé: Most scientists have the ambition to conduct research that is timely, impactful, relevant or even pivotal, rather than incremental. In practice, however, we too often focus our efforts on follow-up work on largely explored topics. One of the strategies that allow us to avoid falling into this professional trap is to engage in novel collaborations. The CNRS research groups (GdR) are an efficient tool for creating new links at national level. Over the last decade, the CNRS has created more and more projects and units that allow research to be carried out in the context of fully international environment. The most developed are the CNRS International Research Laboratories (IRLs), which benefit from synergies between French labs and institutes with prestigious partners abroad. The purpose of this presentation is to give you some personal perspectives and thoughts on the work and operation within IRLs – the experience I have recently gained from my first, one-year stay at one of the IRLs located in Japan…
