Titre : Ordered defects: a roadmap towards room temperature superconductivity in graphite

Institut Néel, Salle E424

Résumé : Localized or granular superconductivity has been recently observed in twisted bilayer graphene with critical temperatures below 10K.  Previous theoretical and experimental works indicate, however, that superconductivity at much higher temperatures can exist already  at the interfaces or stacking faults between, e.g., multilayer graphene with Bernal and rhombohedral stacking orders. Misleading interpretations of the electrical transport properties of bulk and thin graphite samples and the lack of accurate structural characterization in the past, impeded a rush development of the general physics of graphite and in particular on the localized superconductivity at certain stacking faults. In this talk, we review the experimental evidence for superconductivity at very high temperatures in graphite, which started already in the 70’s, including recently published studies.
