Institut NEEL is part of this Grenoble tradition with very strong links between cutting-edge fundamental research, training, and innovative technological development in collaboration with economic and industrial players.
The laboratory’s research focuses on materials, clean energies, nanosciences, low temperatures and cutting-edge scientific instrumentation in fields as diverse as the study of cosmological radiation, or biological objects, are a breeding ground for the emergence of original and innovative processes or devices. These give rise to the filing of patents, the signing of research collaboration agreements with companies, the granting of licenses, and even the creation of start-ups.

The Institut NEEL has been involved in 50 patent applications over the past ten years, 31 of which have led to international PCT extensions (Patent Cooperation Treaty), and 34 filed jointly with academic and industrial partners.
The long-term goal of these applications is generally to enable the exploitation of these patents by French or international companies through licensing agreements. There are also 8 software protection filings.
A major activity of the laboratory with industry is the signing of research collaboration contracts, in which companies fund or participate in research together with the laboratory’s researchers, engineers, and technicians.
Participation also takes place through the funding of internships or doctoral theses (e.g., CIFRE theses). Industry is also involved through funding requests in response to calls from the ANR (French National Research Agency), European projects, and other specific funding programs.
Today, the laboratory has numerous research collaboration contracts and several doctoral fellowships in partnership with industry.
