Abstract

The use of the “pressure” parameter to probe the physical properties of a system has been widely used in condensed matter, and more specifically in the study of superconductors, a central theme of my research. Mechanical pressure in fact allows to modify the interatomic distances, and therefore to modulate the chemical bonds and consequently the electronic structure. In other words, it will change the balance of the different structural, orbital and spin degrees of freedom, and therefore largely affect the associated states, especially superconductivity.

As part of the defense of my HDR at the University of Grenoble-Alpes, I will present a selection of some works carried out since my thesis (1997-2000) on various superconductors where pressure has been used to better understand them. First, I will be interested in silicon clathrates, conventional superconductors, studied when I was employed in Lyon (2002 2006). A second part will follow about iron pnictides and chalcogenides, which I have been studying, especially under pressure, since the discovery of superconductivity in LaFeAs (O,F) in 2008. I will end with a last part concerning the perspectives of my research that I want to develop over the next few years with a section on new iron-based superconductors and another one about the new (potential) nickelate superconductors.
