Springer Thesis Prize

Maxime Debertolis received his doctorate in theoretical condensed matter physics in 2022 under the
supervision of Dr. S. Florens at Institut Néel-CNRS.

After obtaining a Bachelor’s in Physics and a Master’s in Physics, specializing in Quantum Matter, from the Université Grenoble Alpes (funded by the UGA Doctoral School) and a thesis, Maxime is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Bonn.

Maxime has just been awarded the Springer Thesis Prize!
This prize will lead to the publication of a book in 2023 entitled “Quantum Impurity Problems in the Framework of Natural Orbitals”

Maxime Debertolis’ research, carried out in close collaboration with Prof. I. Snyman at the University of the Witwatersrand, has established a powerful quantum compression method for problems in mesoscopic physics, such as the Kondo effect, by implementing the key concept of natural orbitals borrowed from
quantum chemistry.

This work opens new perspectives for tackling hard theoretical problems such as simulating the quantum dynamics of dissipative or molecular systems.
