Title: Gold nanoparticles for diagnostic and treatment of chronic diseases
Institut Néel, Room F418
Abstract : Gold nanoparticles (GNPs) emerged as an interesting tool for different applications in biomedicine as drug delivery, diagnostic, therapy and for the so called theranostics which consist in the diagnostic and treatment of pathologies in a unique procedure (1,2). Some of the interesting properties of GNPs are the Surface Enhanced Fluorescence and Surface Raman Enhanced scattering effects and their photothermal capacity that allow use them for diagnostics and therapy, respectively. For targeting purposes GNPs could be functionalized with multiple functional moieties as peptides capable of selective targeting, imaging, and delivery of specific drugs to target malignant cells and amyloid toxic aggregates (3,4,5).
In the seminary will be discussed studies related with the functionalization of GNPs and their interaction with different biological targets. Moreover, we will talk about the potential use of GNPs for cancer (3), cardiovascular (6) and Alzheimer’s diseases in relation with drug delivery, diagnostic, therapy and theranostics (1) considering also their potential risks.
