The light-matter interaction is the subject of a 40-page dossier in the 1st quarter 2022 issue of the journal La Recherche. The latest advances in this field, rich in fundamentals and applications, are reviewed. Nonlinear optics is at the heart of this news and allows today the design of efficient frequency converters for LIDAR spectroscopy and generators of new quantum states of light for quantum information as well as the detection of gravitational waves, as explained by Benoît Boulanger and his colleagues in the article titled « L’optique non linéaire : une véritable alchimie » (Article_B-Boulanger_La Recherche_2022). The issue can be viewed in its entirety on this link (access reserved to members of the Néel Institute).
