Condensed Matter – Low Temperatures (MCBT)

The research in our department is focused on new states of condensed matter and involves both theoretical work and experimental techniques at low temperatures. The condensed phases of 3He and 4He are explored as model systems for topological matter and turbulence.

Helium: from fundamental to applications Exploring physics from quantum vortices to cosmos using helium and cryogenics.

Thermodynamics & Biophysics of small systems New experimental paradigms to deciphere how activity or energy patterns at very small scale control the physics and the organization of many systems.

Ultra-low temperatures Fundamental research at the ultra-low temperature frontier.

Technological Groups

Cryogenics From winding to millikelvin: design, production and development of original cryogenic devices at Institut Néel.

Croissance Cristalline et Micro Analyse Crystal growth (floating zone, flux, Czochralski, Bridgman) and microanalysis by electronic probes (SEM / EDX - EBSD and microprobe / WDS).

Electronics From picoAmpere to TeraHertz, pushing the limits of electronics.

Le département rassemble une centaine de permanents (65 chercheurs et enseignants-chercheurs, 35 ingénieurs et techniciens) et une cinquantaine de non permanents (doctorants, post-doctorants, CDD chercheurs et IT, visiteurs) regroupés en 5 équipes de recherche et 4 pôles techniques.
