QUantic Electronics, Surfaces and spinTronics (QUEST)

The research activity in the QUEST department is focussed on the study of surfaces and interfaces, individual quantum objects and topological matter.

This activity covers all aspects from system nanofabrication to the study of their electronic and magnetic properties as well as modelling.

Teams

Quantum Electronic Circuits Alps Quantum phenomena in electronic circuits : from model systems to large scale integration.

Micro and NanoMagnetism Complementary expertise in fabrication, characterisation, and simulations for studies in nanomagnetism with applications in spin electronics and micro-systems.

Quantum Nano-Electronics and Spectroscopy Local spectroscopy and quantum transport in 2D materials and nanostructures.

Surfaces, Interfaces and Nanostructures Experimental and theoretical studies of low dimensional systems.

2D quantum states with tunable interactions Electronic, optical, vibrational, and mechanical properties of hybrid systems at the quantum scale, and the coupling between these properties.

Theory of Quantum Circuits Designing and analyzing theoretically model systems for the exploration of emergent quantum phenomena in nanoelectronic devices.

Technological Groups

Collaborating Research Group at ESRF/ILL facilities Operation and development of CRG instruments dedicated to materials science and hosted at the European Facilities ILL and ESRF.

Epitaxy & layer deposition Development and optimization of original experimental set-ups operating mainly under vacuum and ultra-high vacuum as well as processes for growing innovative nano-materials.

Experimental Engineering Prototyping, development of specific equipment and management of a magnetometry platform in support of research.

Nanofab Development of micro and nanofabrication processes for fundamental research.

The department has a permanent staff of around 85 (55 researchers and research-professors, 30 engineers and technicians) and around a hundred non-permanent staff members (PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, engineers and technicians temporary contracts and visitors) grouped into six scientific teams and four technical poles.
