MagREEsource, winner of the 2025 Louis Néel Prize from the Delphinale Academy

The Louis Néel Prize, recreated in 2025 by the Académie Delphinale, revives the Louis Néel Prize initiative created by Jean-François Piquard and Louis Néel in 1993, which had been discontinued since 2004.

MagREEsource founded in 2020 and led by Sophie Rivoirard and Erick Petit, draws on years of research in Grenoble, including hydriding. It quickly set up a pilot unit in Noyarey for recycling permanent magnets (motivated in part by the shortage of rare earths) to produce 50 tons of permanent magnets this year. An expansion of production to 1,000 tons is planned. This is a fine example of the circular economy and the transfer of research to production.

The 2025 Louis Néel Prize will be awarded by the Académie Delphinale on December 13 at 4:00 p.m. in the amphitheater of the Archives Départementales de l’Isère, 12 Rue Georges Pérec, 38400 Saint-Martin d’Hères.
