"Electronic properties of single-quantum-dot junctions"

Abstract

An atom, a molecule or a nanoparticle can form what is called a quantum dot, that is, an object so small that its electronic energy levels appear as discrete. Coupling such a nano-object to one or more macroscopic reservoirs (electrodes) can give rise to peculiar transport phenomena at low temperature (of charge, spin or energy) stemming from the quantum nature of electrons. I will review experimental works of our team from the past few years on single-quantum-dot-based devices, combining superconductivity, spin magnetism and charge quantization effects. I will then move to some recent results on thermal and thermoelectric effects in such devices.
