"Charge ordering in LuFe2O4 and YbFe2O4"


Résumé/abstract : Triangular mix-valenced iron oxide RFe2O4 ( R = heavy rare earth ) had proposed as a prototype of electronic ferroelectric material of iron oxide. In the proposal, this material has an electric polarization arise from a polar charge ordering. However, discussion of the polar charge ordering have not got a settled conclusion yet. This situation might arise from the difficulty in crystal synthesis with high stoichiometry. We have succeeded in growing stoichiometric YbFe2O4 crystal which have less iron vacancy. The crystal has simpler extinction rule of diffraction observation and has higher transition temperature. I will review the possible charge order model of this material derived from the direct observation of the extinction rule and its physical properties.
