"Nano-electromechanical system with charge density waves"


Nano-electromachanical systems (NEMS) have been widely investigated for highly- sensitive detection of mass and force, and also for a candidate of experimental systems for macroscopic quantum phenomena. The charge density wave (CDW) systems can be applied to NEMS, since the CDW directly couples electrical and mechanical properties. The effects from the CDW to the mechanical property have been discovered ; the CDW superlatttice increases Young’s modulus, and the CDW sliding current induces a mechanical vibration. However, the effect on a CDW electrical current from mechanical vibrations has never been observed yet. We investigate the electro-mechanical coupling using a nanoscale suspended beam mechanical vibrator made of a one-dimensional CDW material TaS3. The talk will present our recent results.
