"Probing the motion of nanoresonators from 2 dimensional materials in frequency, time and spatial domains"

Nanomechanical resonators made from suspended 2-dimensional materials have interesting mechanical, optical and electronic properties. Interferometry enables the characterization of their motion with frequency, time and spatial resolution. A review will be given on how these measurements contribute to the understanding of various aspects of their dynamics, such as membrane to plate transition, dissipation and frequency fluctuations, the effect of strain and geometric artefacts such as wrinkles. NEMS resonators from 2-D materials provide an interesting platform for applications as nanomechanical switches and sensors.
