"Graphene-substrate interaction studied by STM/STS"

Abstract :

We shall present results obtained by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) on the electronic structure of supported graphene layers prepared by thermal decomposition of SiC-C face substrates. After a brief discussion of the sample structure, we shall discuss two points. The first one will be the interaction between adsorbates and graphene. Specifically, we shall adress the role of the symmetry of the adsorption site on the characteristics of the adsorbate resonance. The second one will be the influence of an interlayer rotation on the low energy electronic structure of twisted graphene layers. It will be shown that van Hove singularities develop in a wide range of rotation angles, which allows deriving a value of the effective interlayer coupling.
