"A V-shape superconducting artificial atom"


Cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), traditionally in a setup combining natural two-level systems (atoms and ions) and optical cavities, permits to study the interaction of matter and light on the quantum level. The development of circuit QED using superconducting artificial atoms and microwave resonators has permitted to conduct such experiments on a chip. In this talk we give a general introduction to the subject and demonstrate how we can engineer the internal level structure of the artificial atom aiming at applications such as fast qubit readout or cross-Kerr photon interaction.
