"Interplay of superconductivity, charge order and magnetism in correlated electron materials"

Abstract :

The concept of Fermi surface competition between collective states such as superconductivity, magnetism and charge order, is one of the most fundamental problems of condensed matter physics, and encompass, for example, high temperature copper-oxide superconductors, heavy-fermion compounds, low-dimensional charge-density-wave (CDW) systems, and iron-based superconductors. In this talk, I will present an overview of recent results obtained in two of these classes of materials.

The first part will be devoted to rare-earth tritelluride compounds (RTe3, R = Gd, Tb, Dy), in which the application of pressure suppresses two CDW states and gives rise to superconductivity at low temperatures [1,2]. In the second part we will focus on iron-pnictide materials, which present an intricate interplay between localized and itinerant magnetism, and superconductivity [3]. In particular, in the Ba1-xKxFe2As2 series, increasing the K content lowers the dimensionality of the electronic structure and gives rise to strong correlations. These conditions favor paramagnetic pair-breaking mechanism of the superconducting state in KFe2As2, where we found compelling evidence for Pauli-limited multiband superconductivity [4].
