"Micro and nanomechanics at low temperatures : a nonlinear issue"

Micro and nanomechanical devices are under intense investigation for both their promising instrumental applications and their implication in fundamental issues of physics. Indeed, these devices are ultra-sensitive mass and force detectors, they can be used in their linear or nonlinear regimes to implement various signal processing schemes ; they can be thought of as ideal probes addressing classical and quantum issues of physics. Moreover, these artificial mechanical devices can be studied and controlled in such an accurate way that they become themselves model systems in which classical and quantum mechanics can be questioned. In this talk, I will describe our works on classical nonlinear dynamics of simple beam-based mechanical devices. Both fundamental results and implications for low temperature physics are discussed.
