"Electronic structures in Strongly Correlated Electron Systems : an X-ray scattering perspective on multifunctional materials and high temperature superconductors"

Strongly Correlated Electron Systems (SCES) are the solid state realm of electronic orderings. Depending on symmetries and interaction details, intrinsic electronic degrees of freedom may collectively organize, cause high susceptibilities, generate rich phase diagrams and exotic phases. In such a complex panorama the microscopic investigation of electronic properties is central to single out the mechanisms involved. Resonant X-ray Scattering (RXS) represents a privileged point of view on electronic degrees of freedom at play in solids. In my talk, I report about peculiar electronic properties of some SCES investigated by means of RXS :
- the microscopic mechanisms responsible for the magnetoelectric coupling in manganese 125 oxides [1, 2], titanates [3, 4] and ferroborates [5-6], under applied electric and magnetic fields ;
- the new electronic collective state competitive to superconductivity in some Cu based HTSC [7].
