EWEG2013 — The first European workshop on epitaxial graphene

The first European workshop on epitaxial graphene (EWEG’2013) will be held in the French Alps (in a skiing resort, Aussois) from 27th to 31st of January 2013.

The aim of this workshop is to intensify the discussion on the topic of graphene on metals, to explore new links between the different subfields involved and to pinpoint unsolved and controversial issues. The workshop will bring together leading experts and young researchers involved in surface science studies of the structural and physical properties, in the production of graphene from metallic supports (including device fabrication), and in theoretical investigations. The workshop will provide ample time for discussion.

EWEG’2013 will include 11 invited talks, 36 contributed talks, and 2 poster sessions, in a single session format, addressing
- structure, including defects,
- electronic and optical properties,
- magnetic properties and spintronics,
- adsorption and intercalation, including metals and molecules,
- theoretical investigations,
- growth, production, and device fabrication.

We warmly invite you to submit your contributions to EWEG’2013. Registration and abstract submission are now open at The deadline for abstract submission has been set to September, 15th, 2012, and the deadline for early bird registration to October, 1st.

The provisional list of invited experts includes the following speakers :
- Prof. Michael Altman (HKUST, Hong Kong)
- Prof. Florian Banhart (IPCMS, Strasbourg, France)
- Prof. Alessandro Baraldi (Sincrotrone Trieste, Italy)
- Dr. Ageeth Bol (TU Twente, The Netherlands)
- Prof. Ivan Brihuega (Univ. Autonoma Madrid, Spain)
- Dr. Carsten Busse (Uni. Cologne, Germany)
- Prof. Philip Hofmann (Aarhus University, Denmark)
- Prof. Arkady Krasheninnikov (Univ. Helsinki, Sweden)
- Prof. Rodney Ruoff (University of Texas at Austin, USA)
- Dr. Elena Voloshina (Freie Uni. Berlin, Germany)

Here below is a list of practical information, which you may find useful in the view of organizing you travel to Aussois. More detailed information is available at and upon request at
- The workshop will start in the end of the afternoon of the 27th of January, with an invited overview talk by Prof. Rodney Ruoff, and end just after lunch on the 31st of January,
- On-site accommodation is included in the workshop registration fees,
- The program includes free time in afternoons for informal discussions and leisure time.

Looking forward to meeting you in January 2013 in Aussois,
